Baker's Dozen ..Medieval law specified the weight of loaves of bread in England in 1266. During years of good harvests, bakers could make more bread than they could sell locally, so they would sell the excess loaves to middlemen. This extra loaf provided the profit for the middleman.

London Theatre Tickets

Theatre Tickets

To find out what's showing in London see the London Theatre Guide, which is available free from theatres, hotels and tourist venues. Listings are also available in national and London newspapers and magazines such as 'Time Out'.

Theatre ticket prices vary widely, from about £10 in a small theatre to over £50 for the best seat at a top West End show. Concessionary rates are sometimes available for senior citizens (over 60 years old), students, or disabled customers. Proof of status is always required.

If buying from a ticket agent, only use legitimate agents, such as a member of Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers (the Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers). STAR members provide a fair deal to ticket buyers and include big agencies such as Keith Prowse Ticketing, Really Useful Theatres and Ticketmaster.  Phone the STAR helpline on +44 (0)870 603 9011 for further information.

For booking tickets on the day of the performance, either go direct to the theatre for standby tickets or returns (ring ahead for availability) or, for genuine discount tickets, buy from the tkts booth in the clocktower building on the south side of Leicester Square and at Canary Wharf Docklands Light Railway Station. tkts is the only official discount theatre ticket operation in London. They sell half-price tickets, with an additional service charge of £2.50 per ticket, on the day of the performance only. You can buy up to 4 tickets per person. A limited number of discounted (25%) or full price tickets are also available.  Ticket sales are by cash (£ sterling or euro), credit card or Switch – cheques and travellers cheques are not accepted. Though tkts does not sell tickets for all West End shows, there is always a wide selection – displayed on two electronic noticeboards (one for afternoon (matinée) and one for evening performances) at the front of the booth. tkts is open 7 days a week: Monday to Saturday, 1000-1900 and Sunday, 1200 to 1500. You may have to queue for a short time, particularly at busy periods.
Essential Information

When buying tickets always:

  • ask to see the ‘face value’ of the ticket (ticket agents charge a booking fee – which should be no more than 25% of the ‘face value’ of the ticket);
  • ask to see a seating plan;
  • ask if the seat has a restricted view   (these seats should be cheaper); and
  • avoid signing any forms – you may be signing away your legal rights.

You are strongly advised not to buy tickets from touts (scalpers) as these tickets are often very overpriced or not genuine.

If you have a complaint about tickets sold to you, contact:

GUARANTEED SMALL GROUP - FAMILY VACATION- THIS TOUR IS LIMITED TO 15 PERSONS
Our two week adventures are designed to delight every member of the family, from school-age children to grandparents. Our family journeys combine the joy of seeing, doing and learning as a family with ample opportunity for just plain family fun.

Thursday - DEPART FROM HOME
Your vacation begins the moment you board your flight. Destination: SHANNON.

Friday - ADARE/DINGLE
Travel to the quaint village of Adare, distinguished by its charming thatched cottages. The Dingle Peninsula is one of the natural wonders of Ireland. The Dingle Peninsula is home to many wonders - second highest mountain range in the country, a wealth of archaeological sites, home to some of the finest traditional music, dance and the Irish language. The dramatic mountains sweep down to golden beaches and stark rocks. Optional bike ride this afternoon. At Dingle's pubs spontaneous music sessions often erupt.

Saturday - DINGLE - DOLPHIN WATCH
The greens of the hills contrast with the wildness of the scenes to make Dingle an enchanted place. Dingle is a native Gaelic speaking area and the lilt of this ancient tongue adds an element of mystery to this hauntingly beautiful place. Here is the land of "Ryan's Daughter". Today's adventure is a dolphin watch to discover Fungie, the bottle-nosed local celebrity. The Dingle Peninsula experience is one you will remember for a long time to come. (B)

Sunday - GAP OF DUNLOE/BLARNEY/KINSALE - HORSES AND SHIPS
Travel to Killarney and visit the Gap of Dunloe by pony and trap. The famed Gap is a four-mile gulch carved by glaciers, enhanced by the purple mountains and Macgillicuddy's Reeks. Travel to Blarney, with a chance to kiss "The Stone". Kinsale, one of the most historic and picturesque towns in Cork has quaint cobbled streets, gourmet restaurants and yachts moored in the harbor. (B)
horse riding in ireland
Monday - COBH/KILKENNY - TITANIC AND WITCHES
You take the scenic route to Cobh, departure point for many emigrants, and the last port of call for the "Titanic". Many of the passengers are buried in the local graveyard. Then, you are off to medieval Kilkenny, the setting for one of Ireland's finest cathedrals. The town itself is closely associated with witchcraft. Dame Alice Kyteler was tried for witchcraft here in the 14th century. (B)

Tuesday - DUBLIN/CABRA CASTLE
Tour Trinity College Library containing the famous "Book of Kells". See the Bank of Ireland - Ireland's first Parliament, St. Patrick's and the Georgian "doors" of Dublin. Visit the Guinness Brewery, where you taste the famous stout. Travel to your castle home. Enjoy your dinner at this sprawling, grey stone castle, built in 1669. Its halls and courtyards once echoed to the footsteps of Oliver Cromwell and James II. Today the former Corney Castle offers a tranquil sanctuary to the busy wayfarers of modern times. Set in 100 acres of parkland, Cabra Castle's rooms offer unique antiques and paintings. Leisure facilities include a 9 hole golf course, enclosed gardens and Lady's Lake and walks through the forest park. Situated in Kingscourt, Co. Cavan, just 1 ½ hours from Dublin (B,D)

Wednesday - WESTPORT - THE RUGGED WEST
Travel to scenic Carrick-on-Shannon, a boating haven, to Boyle, known for its romantic abbey ruins and to Castlebar and Westport. Travel through scenes of tin roofed barns and herds of meandering sheep on your way to County Mayo. You are free to sightsee this evening or join other passengers for dinner. (B)

Thursday - WALKING
Westport is by far the most attractive town in Mayo, with a wide expanse of sea dotted with islands and framed by mountain ranges. Traditional shops - ironmongers and the like dot the streets. Visit Westport House, home of Lord Sligo. Optional: climb Croagh Patrick, a holy mountain pilgrimage site since 441 AD. Caution! This is only for the very fit. (B)

Friday - CONNEMARA/GALWAY/DOOLIN - MUSIC
Travel to Roundstone in Connemara, known for the making of traditional Irish instruments, such as the bodhrán. Visit Galway, the cultural capital of the West. Move on to Lisdoonvarna, site of the 'Matchmaking Festival' to the fishing village of Doolin. It is said that three of the best pubs in Ireland are here. (B)

Saturday - ARAN ISLANDS - BY BOAT
For centuries, this craggy landscape has been the home for Irish speaking fishermen and their families, where the famed off-white Aran sweaters originated. These are lands that time has forgotten. Inisheer is the smallest island. You travel by steamer to the docks and walk to tour the island and return to Doolin. (B)

Sunday - SHANNON/DUBLIN/EDINBURGH
You soon approach the majestic Cliffs of Moher, soaring 700 feet above the breaking sea. Take a hop-on-hop-off sightseeing tour of Edinburgh. Tour highlights include Edinburgh Castle, St. Gile’s Cathedral, Burns Monument, National Gallery, and the Palace of Holyrood House. Another suggestion: Visit the royal ship Britannia. For over forty years Britannia served the Royal Family, travelling over one million miles. Discover the fascinating past of the most famous ship in the world. (B)

Monday – ALNWICK CASTLE & GARDENS An early morning departure for an all-day excursion to Alnwick Castle, the family home of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland. Set in a stunning landscape, designed by Capability Brown, Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in England (after Windsor Castle). Alnwick Castle was extensively used for external locations including the broomstick flying and Quiddich games in the Harry Potter films. Return to Edinburgh. Tonight, enjoy a traditional Scottish Music Show. (CB,D)

Tuesday – INVERNESS/LOCH NESS MONSTER Travel to Inverness, capital of the Highlands. Today’s adventure: Driving alongside Loch Ness, where we enjoy monster hunting at the ruined Urquhart Castle. Nearby, the native Caledonian Pine Forest landscape will take you back in time to how Scotland would have looked 500 years ago. This location was used in the film, “Last of the Mohicans”. Overnight in a bed and breakfast. (B)

Wednesday – RIDE THE POTTER RAILWAY/ISLE OF SKYE Ride the Jacobite “Hogwarts Express” (The West Coast Railway Company) steam locomotives. We head by ferry to Skye, and up to Portree, where pastel houses line the harbor. Skye has ruined castles, awesome scenery, Viking fortresses and is home to legendary clans, immersed in Celtic myths & legends. Stand on the battlements of timeless castles. We stop to visit the famous Eilean Donan Castle, used in the film “Highlander” and a James Bond movie, set at the junction of three lochs as protection against Viking raiders. (B)

Thursday – GLEN COE/EDINBURGH Enjoy the mystical mountains of Glencoe. In the battle here in 1692, 40 of the MacDonald clan were massacred in cold blood by the Campbells for not forswearing the Jacobite cause. They say you can still hear their cries! Our overnight accommodations are at an authentic 13th century Scottish castle hotel set within acres of wooded parkland on the picturesque banks of the river Esk. (B)
Friday – EDINBURGH/HOME Board your return flight. Return home with great memories of the new friends you’ve made. (B)

Private tour to Devon and Cornwall 5 days

Whether its browsing the antique or craft shops, ambling along the cobbled pedestrian areas or hiring a small boat and drifting along the river, there are many things to do in Devon and Cornwall. Cornwall, where the melodic voices of fishermen singing sea shanties still reverberates around quaint fishing villages. The popular legend of King Arthur has many of its roots here in the West Country, too.

Day 1 - London – Oxford – Bath – Bristol This morning , we make our way to the first stop of our day, Oxford. Here we will visit one of the University's Colleges and we continue on a scenic drive through the Southern Cotswolds, to Bath. We will admire its Georgian architecture and stop to visit the Roman Baths. Next we're off to nearby Bristol.

Day 2 - Bristol – Plymouth (2 nights) This morning after a drive to admire the rugged beauty of Cheddar Gorge, we continue on to Glastonbury the legendary burial site of King Arthur, with its Abbey ruins. From here we drive into Devon taking us by the wild and rugged Dartmoor National Park, and to the historic naval port of Plymouth, where the Mayflower sailed from. The boggy moorland of Dartmoor contrasts with the genteel towns of the coastal areas. The Remains of the Day was filmed Powderham Castle, Devon, and Corsham Court in Devon, and Bath. Anthony Hopkins as a butler comes to realize that his loyalty and respect for his employers has been misplaced.

Day 3 - Cornish Excursion We enjoy a delightful day touring this beautiful area and rugged coastline. We will visit the artists' colony of St. Ives, Land's End, and St. Michael's Mount near Penzance. Lands End will also provide spectacular views this time across the Atlantic Ocean as, at this point you are standing on the most westerly point of the English mainland. The rugged coastline, colored by the setting sun and seagulls and terns circling overhead will provide one of the most everlasting memories of your visit. St. Ives, an old fishing port and an artists colony full of character. Its also the home of the Tate Gallery, a superb building that offers a unique introduction to modern art and the stunning Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden.

Day 4 - Plymouth – Tintagel – Taunton Our first stop this morning will be at Tintagel for views of the ruined castle, reputed to be the birthplace of King Arthur. Our drive continues to the picturesque and steeply cobbled village of Clovelly. Finally we make our way to the Devon town of Taunton for the night. The Dracula 1979 film was made at Tintagel, St. Michael's Mount. Tintagel Castle is owned by the Duchy of Cornwall. In legend it was King Arthur's Castle fortress and was believed to have been constructed around AD1140. It was built by Earl Richard of Cornwall, the youngest son of King John.

Day 5 - Taunton – Stonehenge – Salisbury – London We drive past Lorna Doone's famous Exmoor as we leave the West Country. Today, the lush Devon landscape draws thousands of fans of the 19th century novel each year, keen to relive the moment Lorna is felled by a bandit's bullet at the altar. Then we cross Salisbury Plain to the ancient and mysterious monoliths of Stonehenge. From here we continue to our next stop at Salisbury Cathedral. Finally, we return to London.

Price Includes:

  • Round trip airfare and airport transfers may be added to this tour.
  • Deluxe private car/minicoach transportation
